Local area
The pretty village of Stratton offers a post office, general
store, Butcher, Fish and Chip shop, three good pubs, which
offer meals, a Norman church by the village square and small
green where children can play. The village also has
footpaths from the old village into Bude beside the old
Canal and along the beaches and coastal footpaths.
There are also many picturesque walks and cycle rides on the
doorstep to occupy guests.
Bude offers a seaside holiday for everyone. Its extensive
attractions include its sandy beaches with some of the
finest surfing in the UK. Indoor activities include a
leisure centre with heated indoor wave pool, squash courts
and a ten pin bowling alley.
The traditional market town of Holsworthy is just 10 miles
away, across the border in Devon. On Wednesdays and
Thursdays the livestock market here is one of the busiest in
the South West. A pannier market, originating in 1215, is
held in the town centre every Wednesday throughout the year.
The North Cornwall coast south to the attractive fishing
port of Padstow is attractively rugged and punctuated by
pretty hidden coves, sandy beaches and attractive villages
including St Gennys, Boscastle, Tintagel and Port Isaac.
To the north lies the Devon coast and the popular towns of
Bradworthy and Bideford.
